Journal Entry 1 by JessicaEby from Cambridge, Ontario Canada on Friday, February 24, 2023
I picked this book up on a quick stop at a charity shop in Stratford, Ontario. I bought it knowing nothing about it other than that it's about female aviators during the Second World War and it's set in Hawaii; I thought it might be interesting as well as useful to me for a 50 States US Reading Challenge in which I am participating.

Journal Entry 2 by JessicaEby at Cambridge, Ontario Canada on Saturday, December 9, 2023
I started reading this early in the year, to be my Hawaii book, as previously stated. As it turns out, it's mostly set outside of Hawaii (especially in Texas), so I ended up setting it aside to focus on other books for my reading challenge and eventually found a different book to represent Hawaii. With a month left in the year I had only one more book to read for the challenge, so I took the time to return to this book and finish it.

I thought this book was a pretty satisfying read. I have been aware of the WASP programme for a long time (and had the chance to visit the B-29 called Fifi when she was in my area back in the summer of 2018), but have only read one book about them in the past and it was geared to younger readers, so it was interesting to read one meant for adults this time. Overall I thought the writing was quite good, I found the main character quite relatable in site coming from a very different time/place/circumstance, and I was satisfied with the ending. There are parts that are not especially for the faint of heart, but it is a war book, after all.

I have another book by this same author set in the same era that I've been expecting to read in 2024, and now that I've read this one, I'm looking forward to getting around to that one too!

I'm not sure what will come next for this book; for now I'm just going to set its status as available. I will, of course, plan to journal again before moving it along.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

Released on a quick stop at Trenton ONRoute (westbound) during a long and rainy drive home to southwestern Ontario this afternoon. I decided to leave this one in Trenton because of its connection to the air force, even back in the days when this book is set (my husband's great-grandfather was stationed in Trenton for most of the Second World War). I left the book on the little table thing between the massage chairs.

If you've found this book, thanks for picking it up and checking out its journal! If you're new to bookcrossing, welcome. We'd love it if you'd stick around with us a while. I really hope that you enjoy both this book and the whole bookcrossing experience!
