It's a new month... time for some new bug fixes!
While Matt is still working on harnessing the book data that we all have contributed to, and making it available for searches, he's also been rather busy fixing other things, and even adding some nifty little features. Read all about it in this Announcements forum post.

"This is a political satire which, by its very nature, demands both exaggeration and the inclusion of developments which are not based on real events....In a sense "Little Johhnie" is a children's book written for adults."
One of our dark days as an uncaring nation (Tampa incident) turned into a satire.
Think this might make a good bookring. A very slim book (should only cost 50c -$1 to mail).
A school burns down on the NSW side of the Murray River; the Principal of the Victorian school proposes the students come by boat each day to their school.....
Started the ring with lacrimosa (who works a few desks away). Please PM me to join.

This is a very good little satire. It took a contentious issue in recent Australian history and turned it into a childrens story!

Journal Entry 3 by Slytherbeth from Melbourne CBD, Victoria Australia on Tuesday, April 12, 2005
Read during the monthly meet up in Melbourne tonight. Very funny, very witty. Simple idea talking about a much bigger issue.

Book passed on during meet up.

Journal Entry 4 by claudinec from North Melbourne, Victoria Australia on Tuesday, April 12, 2005
I read this during last night's meetup. It's a great little story with a timely message for all Australians. Little Johnny is a naughty boy!

Journal Entry 5 by puppymummy from Melbourne CBD, Victoria Australia on Tuesday, April 12, 2005
Very concise story about what happens to society when compassion goes out the window. Extremely well written, covers all angles and was simply brilliant. Thanks for sharing this one with us Megan!

great little read

Journal Entry 8 by fushmush from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Saturday, April 23, 2005
Yes, the book is in my possession. I'll take it along to Sydney meetup and get everyone to read and journal it. Then I'll send it on to dolphin-au.

Journal Entry 9 by kirst040 from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Tuesday, May 10, 2005
Read at meetup tonight. A funny little story.
I have discovered that it's very difficult to read a book during meetup. Far too many distractions.

Journal Entry 10 by wingPixettewing from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Tuesday, May 10, 2005
Amusing.
Obviously a topical humourous book.
I read it during the Sydney May meetup.

Journal Entry 11 by servalan from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Tuesday, May 10, 2005
Brilliant! Make sure you read the sequel: "Little Johnny & the Naughty Disabled People who don't Work!"

Journal Entry 12 by markmcg from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Tuesday, May 10, 2005
Read at tonight's Meetup. As has been stated before, it's very difficult to read a book at Meetup, but read it I did. You probably don't realise that am actually a huge 'Little Johnny' supporter and was deeply offended by this trashy little book (yeah, right). I'm sure that most BookCrossers would agree with me. Christopher Milne should be put on a leaky boat and towed out to sea (or maybe just cut loose in an inner tube on the River Murray) where his children should be thrown overboard.

Journal Entry 13 by alwaysmiling from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Tuesday, May 10, 2005
On Tuesday 10 May 2005, when I was at Poterhouse Irish Pub for the Sydney BookCrossing meeting I read this book. Little Johnny and the Naughty Boat People is a short story.

I left this book at the meeting so another BookCrossing member could read it.

Journal Entry 14 by BookFrog from Albion Park, New South Wales Australia on Wednesday, May 11, 2005
Read this at the Sydney meetup. Is Christopher Milne related to THE Christopher Milne? ie AA Milne's son?

Anyway a quick read, not too many distractions at meetup to get the story of the children who are desperate to go to school they want to go in a leaky boat....

Haven't seen many kids like that at my school. Vacation!

Anyway bad little johnnie!

Gave back to others at meetup and demanded they read it as well!

Journal Entry 15 by wingmeganhwing from Preston, Victoria Australia on Thursday, May 12, 2005
Thank you to Jess for organising and all the "meetupers" for reading this little gem. Sorry markmcg for offending you, I should have realised you would be a fan of Little Johnnie! I did some research for you (bookfrog) to discover that the author is not related to A.A. Milne - in fact he's a Victorian - and he is pretty cute - check out his photo.
He has written lots of Naughty Children books which you can find out about here.

Read at the Sydney meetup. Great idea guys!

Clever, satirical. Worth leaving a few copies around Sydney I think.

Ooh, a book that bites. Very good.

I wish I'd realised that "Naughty Stories for Good Boys and Girls" was at meetup last night, I would have grabbed it too.

I'll take this to the West Sydney meetup on 22/6/5, then back to fushmush in Brisbane to do the rounds there.

Journal Entry 18 by futurecat from Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Friday, June 24, 2005
The Australians are claiming that this is a cheat book, but they obviously haven't got the hang of what a cheat book is, because they actually let you read it!

A very cutting story.

In sydney I had a book thrust at me, by servalan I think, that I promptly forgot about it and very nearly lost only to later find that it was ****THE CHEAT BOOK***** boo hiss. Naughty nzers.
Tonight freshly off the plane and train another book was thrust at me this time by the very lovely meganh. I promptly put this book into my pile which comprised several T shirts, two goody bags (one for mike), my carry on bag from the flight, a 3kg aussie post bag of books that I had posted to neesy, my "prize" from the lucky draw and several other books of the type that one picks up at bxing meetings.
And guess what? When meganh wanted the book back 10 minutes later (Indian giver) I couldn't find it. Just ask Mrs newk how long it takes me to lose things. Not very bloody long at all.
AND ***THEN*** I was told that it was an important book. Deja vu all over again.
To cut a long story short now that I have found the hotel and unpacked I have again located little john. reports will follow.
Megan it's a very nice hotel. No passion, no german speaking brazilians, no bed bugs, a tv...no afl tho..a bath. mmmmmmmmmm

Read during the trivia night. Maybe that's why I was too distracted and our team didn't win. But then, we didn't have google on our team.....

Journal Entry 23 by Skyring from Reid, Australian Capital Territory Australia on Saturday, June 25, 2005
It was great to be part of the family of BookCrossers having fun taking pictures of other people holding up this book. I took a few of them and will post pix when I get a chance.

Pete, having a wonderful time at the convention

An enlightening read. Ok, I admit, Tramgirl actually gave me the gist of it but I have some great pics of bookcrossers (Or BX'ers, as they are known in the 'hood'), reading this book at the Brisbane Convention. Will post them soon!

Not sure who pressed this into my hand, no wait I vaguely remember it sailing over from accross the room. As with meetup this little 5 minute book took me a little longer to read as so much more fun stuff was happening around me.

This little book had a wonderful time at the convention and is now heading off on it's Australia Post bookray ($1 postage). Thanks newk for finding it again (and also for the poverty pack!).
This legitimate cheat book (as opposed to the legitimacy of the Tampa solution) has already climbed to #23 in the most travelled books - thanks to all who read and journalled.
Off to dolphin-au today.

Journal Entry 37 by CoffeeBron from -- Somewhere in Bristol 🤷‍♂️, Bristol United Kingdom on Friday, July 1, 2005
Read this smashing little book in about 7 minutes on the first night of the Convention. Enjoyed the satire and the chance to partake in a shameless attempt at achieving most journalled book!!!

Journal Entry 38 by k-j-h from Geelong, Victoria Australia on Friday, July 1, 2005
Read this in the TV lounge on the fourth floor of "Passion Palace".

Even a tiny little book like this is hard to concentrate on - when there are a half dozen fascinating bookcrossers talking around you.

Journal Entry 39 by jawin from Launceston, Tasmania Australia on Sunday, July 3, 2005
I am a very slack Bookcrosser and only now getting around to journalling the catches I made at the ABC meeting last week. And this was definitely one of the highlights.

I read it in bewteen answering (?) questions at the Trivia night. (As I did not answer many questions, I had plenty of time. I am still smarting over being bested by the feathered fiend who was the only person who knew the name of Punch and Judy's dog. I mean, really. Who knows stuff like that? And more importantly, why?)

I laughed myself silly when I opened the mail today. A parcel actually arrived on Thursday with a stack of bills. I hate bills, so they and the parcel sat while I gathered enough patience to deal with them. And at the bottom of the pile was a book from whitequeen - The History of Punch and Judy! Now whitequeen has provided for my edification this useful and informative volume which I shall devour and commit to memory so such an outrage never happens again. I may also share it with our esteemed quizmaster, caldron, to ensure that in our next round he asks me some questions only I will know the answers to! Then I shall return it to whitequeen so she can hold it as independent arbiter when next there is a dispute about matters as important as those outlined herein.

Now back to Little Johnny, who is not one of my favourite people. In fact, in this house he is referred to as 'the lying rodent' usually accompanied by some less than ladylike epithets. The book, I am pleased to note, did not raise my blood pressure much - rather, it raised a few wry grins.

Journal Entry 40 by newk from Adelaide, South Australia Australia on Monday, July 4, 2005
Phew mate. Maybe that Platform book is not for you after all.

Journal Entry 41 by Skyring from Reid, Australian Capital Territory Australia on Tuesday, July 5, 2005
I thought I'd upload this pic of k-j-h here, as taken by the awesome CoffeeBron. Note the gleam in his eyes. People gleam at Bron, but when I take their picture they just smile whimsically. ***SIGH***

I'd never dreamed I would take part in Australian convention Cheatbook activities, but here I am. You never know what joining a bookring can lead to.
Good to see so many people seemingly enjoying it (and even little johnny supporters should appreciate this book and feel a bit of anger towards johnny for being so mean-spirited and for lying to them about what he knew to be otherwise).
Seeing that this book seems to be aimed at kids, I'll try it on my boys (Can't start too early with leftist indoctrination ;-)) before sending it on.

Journal Entry 44 by Lisagt from Holsworthy, New South Wales Australia on Monday, October 24, 2005

Finished this a few minutes after it arrived in the post yesterday. A simple but clever little reflection on one (of many) of John Howard's "creative" solutions.

Will send off to AS105008 via catsalive today.

Would any journallers here be interested in joining my bookring for the somewhat lengthier read Not Happy John! It's been going for about 15 months and I want to keep it moving until the next federal election!

Journal Entry 46 by wingcatsalivewing from Rooty Hill, New South Wales Australia on Friday, November 4, 2005

Journal Entry 47 by AS105008 from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Friday, November 4, 2005
A nice little satire that could be read by all ages. Definitely a good read for younger people to give them an idea of how things happen in the world. A nice moral to it without being moralistic.

Journal Entry 48 by Carcoar on Sunday, November 6, 2005
A great book for kids to become familiar with current affairs. Very good.

Journal Entry 49 by wingcatsalivewing from Rooty Hill, New South Wales Australia on Monday, November 14, 2005
I read it again before sending it off to flitterby this morning - 15/11/5. It is a children's story for adults, & a very good way to get kids involved in current affairs. I'd like to have a look at Naughty Stories for Good Boys and Girls some time.

Journal Entry 50 by GunStreetGirl from Fremantle, Western Australia Australia on Thursday, November 17, 2005
Just interrupting this book's journey with a journal from meganh's daughter. I read this book on my visit home from W.A.a few months ago.
I enjoyed the satire, good reading for all.

This book is the very first that I've read all the way through before journalling that I've received it. Even better, my other half read it as well! I look forward to seeing it again at the Adelaide Convention next year! Will send on to the next participant next week.

I'll be sure to look for other naughty books by the author. I like his sense of humour!

Journal Entry 54 by wingmeganhwing from Preston, Victoria Australia on Thursday, December 8, 2005
This book has returned home for the next stage of it's journey. Perhaps this will take a trip across the Tasman to the NZ convention to gather some more readers before Adelaide next year. Stay tuned for the book's climb up the ladder - currently at #16 in the most travelled stats (but it's not a competition!)
I am about to send my other copy of
Little Johhnie to hillcat so that this can be released by the Murray River - perhaps near a school?

Journal Entry 55 by Otakuu from Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Friday, February 17, 2006
Generously shared with me by Boreal. I enjoyed this charmingly written 'morality' story.

A quick read but with a deeply thought provoking message within it.

Returned to Boreal to do the rounds of the Conventioneers.

caught at the Dunedin Bookcrossing convention! my first convention - great stuff!! told I had to read it pronto, which I did! Helps if one is aware of the Tampa situation in Ozzie ... Of course nothing like this would EVER happen in NZ!!!!

Journal Entry 58 by boreal from Dunedin, Otago New Zealand on Sunday, February 19, 2006
Great little story -given to me by Meganh at our wonderful NZ convention. Thought I had lost the book but it turned up on the bench in my kitchen.
A better read than a certain other book, well at least I have actually read this one!

Journal Entry 59 by Sherlockfan from Upper Hutt, Wellington Province New Zealand on Monday, February 20, 2006
This book thrust at me with instructions to read during brunch at the NZ Convention in Dunedin.
Enjoyed the convention more than the book but thought the message very well conveyed.
It is the old NIMBY syndrome at work with the addition of lies, lies and more lies really.
Each time I turned a page I expected to see the bit about what happened to those Tampa folk but that wasn't included. Didn't NZ come to the rescue for some of them?

Journal Entry 60 by star-light from Melbourne CBD, Victoria Australia on Tuesday, February 21, 2006
I read this at the Melbourne Meetup where it was passed around by meganh. I was happy to do my bit in helping it become the most travelled book. Go book!

Journal Entry 61 by leeny37 from Melbourne CBD, Victoria Australia on Tuesday, February 21, 2006
Yep, I did my bit and pitched in too! I read this during the Melbourne meet-up @ Journal Cafe last night. A quick little read, although it was hard to concentrate with a buzz of activity around me. May this book keep on travelling and reach the top of the charts!

Journal Entry 62 by KKslibrary from Ascot Vale, Victoria Australia on Saturday, April 1, 2006
I read this during the Melbourne meet-up @ Journal Cafe a few weeks ago, and forgot to journal it. mehanh had it at today's meetup which reminded I needed to journal it. A quick little read and well written and funny too. Keep travelling little book!

Journal Entry 63 by Mistlerose from Frankston, Victoria Australia on Saturday, April 1, 2006
Megan put this book in my hands at the mini meet up today and insisted I read it.

It took me 5 minutes to read. An amusing book.

Journal Entry 64 by winglmn60wing from Spotswood, Victoria Australia on Sunday, April 2, 2006
An on-the-spot read during meet-up today. I didn't have any trouble concentrating on reading AND participating in the assorted BC business and conversations happening around me - I am a woman after all and can do more than one thing at a time. I did, however, have some difficulty making sure that no caffe latte came out my nose as I snorted and occasionally guffawed with laughter.

Thanks for sharing this one with me meganh, I'm honoured to have participated in this 'cheat book'.

Oh yes... and up yer bum, Johnny Shrub.

Journal Entry 65 by freesia from Perth City, Western Australia Australia on Sunday, April 2, 2006
MeganH suggested we read this during today's meetup - and after hearing the snorts of laughter coming from lmn60 next to me I was looking forward to it. An enjoyably dark moral tale.

It's also been educational reading the other journal entries with the report on the actual "children overboard" incident, which I didn't know anything about until today.

Happy travels little cheat book!

Passed on at the Melbourne Bookcrossers' Sunday brunch today at Kaleidoscope Cafe, Brunswick.

Journal Entry 66 by classytea from Melbourne CBD, Victoria Australia on Monday, April 3, 2006
nice short political comedy. This was thrust into my hands and I was told that I wasn't allowed to go to the toilet until it was finished. Fortunately it was very short.

Journal Entry 67 by rem_BBS-540553 on Sunday, October 1, 2006
Ohh, I didn't know this was a cheat book til I got it home (couldn't read it at the BC meetup -- my first!) Hi all **wave** thanks for a really good time!

Johnny sure was a mean little b******, -- obviously from the old 'school'.
Thanks meganh and Christopher Milne for the laugh with a good point.

I'll let the jnr BC'ers here have a quick read before I post it back to you.

Journal Entry 68 by Leathal from Melbourne CBD, Victoria Australia on Sunday, October 1, 2006

Aha! The infamous cheat book!
Very cheeky.
Read at Sunday's brunch meet-up where meganh was waving it around ;)
A very fun, quick read.

Journal Entry 70 by wingmeganhwing from Preston, Victoria Australia on Monday, October 2, 2006
I am here to sadly inform you all that there are worse cheats out there than us and we have dropped to #7 on the most travelled list! In the last month, 2 books have climbed from nowhere to #2 and #3. All journals for both books were done within a few days of each other – it looks like a Californian school teacher is using this for class book reviews. I can’t imagine 130 people reading the one copy within a couple of days of each other so they must be using one BCID for numerous copies.

The first four books are all dodgy which puts Skyring’s Convention Journal (which although it is not a published book, at least people have read and journalled it over a period of time) at #1!
Angel Fire East is definitely dodgy as we all know those kiwis are circulating a piece of cardboard after losing their cheat book.
Little Johnnie is the next book on the list so we are unofficially at #2.
Of course, this decision has been decided by an independent arbiter and is final!
LOL

Journal Entry 71 by winglmn60wing from Spotswood, Victoria Australia on Monday, October 2, 2006
Not that it's a competition........ ;)

Journal Entry 72 by futurecat from Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Monday, October 2, 2006
Of course it's not a competition!

But I'll have you know that Angel Fire East is alive and well (as is its um... cardboard friend), and will be making a guest appearance in Adelaide.

Mum's going to post this back to meganh. Thanks!

Journal Entry 81 by luckydipper from Coolangatta, Queensland Australia on Monday, January 29, 2007
thanks for sending this my way meganh, a very simple small book with such a huge meaning, I wonder has the 'big' Johnny been informed of this books existence? or was the publishing of this book paid for by the opposition?

PS. I also think it amazing that in the last 2 months I have read 3 books that were written by x Neighbours actors, so it seems that Neighbours is not only good for launching a singing career...

Didn't really like the main character, I sometimes found his egocentric ways a bit draining. It was a quick paced read and by the end I was cheering for the naughty little boat people :) Would suit children 6-13 years old. (he he!) Best wishes on your travels little book!

this book was spotted loitering at the recent Melbourne bookcrossing convention. It was looking to be picked up...for yet more journal entries.
I took down its number for later contact. Hence this entry. I am amazed that there are so few pickups from the convention. Or maybe everyone is keeping quiet about it.

An interesting PM I recently received via GoryDetails:-

Hello meganh,

I do some work on the BookCrossing support line, and recently I got an
issue from author Christopher Milne asking to get in touch with you. I
suggested that he join up so he could PM you directly, but he opted to have
me forward the message - so here it is!

This well travelled little book has returned home to me again. The era of Little Johnnie is over and perhaps this book can be retired now at #7 on the "most traveled books" list.
