6 journalers for this copy...
From the back cover:
"It is the summer of 1956. Stevens, an ageing butler, has embarked on a rare holiday - a six-day motoring trip through the West Country. But his travels are disturbed by the memories of a lifetime in service to the late Lord Darlington... A nostalgic story of lost causes and a lost love."
I loved the movie and I love this book.

Several RABCK fairies have looked upon me kindly recently, so I thought it's my turn now. This title was on another Bookcrosser's wish list, so I'm mailing this out now...

Thank you very much, it was a lovely surprise and it's always nice to be on the receiving end of a RABCK! I shall enjoy reading this one as I've wanted to read it for some time.

An incredibly well-written book, the story of Mr Stevens, a butler, who takes a short road trip to the West Country and spends his time reminicing about the past. He has spent his life in service, living his life through his master and never really having a life of his own. Quite a sad read.

I didn't like this book as much as I thought I would, but I'm glad I got the chance to read it, since I've heard so much about it.
Thank you so much, chas04 :)

Well well well...I was the decoy for the "EU Never Won a Sweepstake Sweeps". Thank you Lesehest for sending me this book. Looks interesting. I think I've seen the author on the 1001-books you must read list - but not sure. Not something I would choose, but that's what I like about BC. Getting to read new authors and other genres.
